All patients who arrive on their own in the Emergency Department of University of Leipzig Medical Center will be examined by an Emergency Department coordinator as part of the initial contact. Based on the vital signs recorded and findings made, the initial assessment of the patient is conducted in a standardised manner. This should improve processes, reduce waiting times and increase patient satisfaction.
The order of treatment urgency is to be interpreted as follows. Based on the ailments expressed and symptoms displayed by the patient when he arrived at Emergency Department , there will be no additional risk for the patient if he has to wait the predefined waiting times to see a doctor for the first time.
The initial assessment results in the order of treatment being decided in a standardised manner. This means that ambulant patients will be treated based on the urgency of their condition and predefined time standards. Please understand that the order in which patients are treated is not based on when they arrive at A&E, but on the urgency of the condition / injury.
